Hi, I’m Worldpeece and this post is about how to effectively play Smash and Grab. I will primarily cover basic strategy but I will touch briefly on a few advanced techniques. I will discuss the best brawlers to use, how to use them effectively, how to play Smash and Grab, and other info. Enjoy!
1. What Is Smash And Grab?
Smash And Grab is one of 5 game modes in Brawl Stars. The objective of this game mode is to take gems and hold onto them.
When a team obtains 10 or more gems, referred to as crystals in this mode, which spawn out of the middle drop, a countdown for 15 seconds begins.
During these 15 seconds you need to hold onto your crystals without being killed. At the end of the 15 seconds, if your team still has more than 10 crystals, your team wins the match.
Let’s take a look at one of the Smash and Grab maps, Crystal Cavern. As you can see on this map, there are 3 elements. The Crystal Drop, where the crystals spawn, and A red team and blue team spawn.
2. What Brawlers Should I Use?
There are many good brawlers you can use for Smash And Grab, but here is a list of the top 5 best brawlers to use
Shelly, even after being nerfed is the past, is still a good brawler. She can control an area with her attack, and her super can blast enemies back, stunning them.
Use Shelly to gain an early advantage, rushing in and scaring off enemies. If this is successful, poke at enemies and ward them off while gathering crystals.
If they get too close, use your super to stun them and blast them back. When facing long range, high damage characters (Piper), take cover until they get close. Facing short range characters, back up while shooting the character, so they don’t catch up to you.
My rating out of 10 is 6.5/10
Bo, since getting a damage buff, has become a force to be reckoned with. In Smash And Grab, he provides good AOE damage, combined with a decent amount of health.
His real power comes with his mines, which do 300 damage base. In order to use his mines effectively, place them at spots where the enemy enters the middle where the crystal drop is. This will stop the enemy from obtaining crystals since their path is temporarily blocked.
My rating out of 10 is 7.3/10
Barley is a very good character for smash and grab not because of his health, but because of his AOE damage. He can shut down and control a whole area which is very valuable in Smash and Grab.
Generally, most people will group together at the very beginning, which is where you can throw your bottles, dealing massive damage. If you can successfully do this, try to attack the enemies over time, to build up your super, which is one of the most powerful supers in the game.
When facing long range, high damage characters (Piper), take cover until they get close. Facing short range characters, back up while shooting the character, so they don’t catch up to you.
My rating out of 10 is 8/10
Jessie is very good at Smash and Grab, because of her Super. At the beginning, try to shoot at players, taking cover between shots.
When you build up your super, place it in the bushes, near the crystal drop. This will provide amazing coverage, and then your main goal is to try to defend your turret while collecting crystals.
Since Jessie does not have that much health, be very careful and not to aggressive. When facing long range, high damage characters (Piper), take cover and shoot them while trying not to take damage.
Facing short range characters, back up while shooting the character, so they don’t catch up to you. At the end of a match, when you drop back, try to place your turret back, so it can help defend you and your teammates with crystals.
Mortis Is extremely good at Smash and Grab, Mostly because of his good health, and dash ability. At the beginning of the game, use 2 of your dashes getting to the crystal mine before anyone else gets there, and collect the crystals.
Then play with the flow. If the enemy team pushes forward, drop back. You are the main crystal carrier in this game. Mortis uses should follow this important rule: DO NOT BE TOO AGGRESSIVE!! This is very important because if you die with the gems, the enemy team will likely have a huge advantage.
As a Mortis, dash in and out of the middle, collecting crystals and then dashing out of damage. At the end of the match, take cover behind the wall.
A good rule of thumb is if you have crystals and the enemy has more than 2 Mortis dashes worth of health, then do not try to kill him.
My rating out of 10 is 9/10
3. Useful Tips and Good Stuff To Know
I will end this article discussing Tips and good stuff to know. As a start, if there is a (good) Mortis on your team, let him collect the crystals since that is his role. Do not be too aggressive, except if you are losing and the enemy team is on the crystal countdown. The more crystals you have, try to play defensive more. For example, if you have 10 crystals, play extremely defensive. If you have 5, play defensive, but attack if needed to.
